HeyCoach today announced that Rob Zettler has joined the company as a Strategic Advisor, adding one of hockey’s most experienced coaching voices to its leadership team.
Zettler is an Assistant Coach with the Tampa Bay Lightning and helped the team win the Stanley Cup in 2021. Across 25 years behind the bench, he has coached in more than 1,000 professional games following a 14-season NHL playing career.
As Strategic Advisor, Zettler will bring his coaching expertise to HeyCoach’s product vision, partnerships, and customer relationships.
HeyCoach is what every coach needs to organize their team and become more efficient. More importantly, it will help their players be the best they can be. I am thrilled to lend my experience to HeyCoach, and I look forward to working with the great team they have assembled.
Zettler’s approach to coaching has long extended beyond systems and tactics.
While coaching with the San Jose Sharks, he completed Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA) training and went on to teach PCA classes to coaches across the Bay Area. That experience reinforced a principle that continues to shape his work: better coaching starts with getting to know athletes and understanding what they are experiencing.
That athlete-centred philosophy closely aligns with HeyCoach’s mission.

Zettler’s appointment comes as HeyCoach prepares for broader growth. A ThinkSport sports innovation startup finalist, HeyCoach has been working in Lausanne, Switzerland, as part of the 2026 TECH4SPORT Accelerator.
HeyCoach will exhibit at The Coaches Site Live, taking place August 6–8, 2026, in Edmonton. Zettler previously presented at the event in 2024.

Rob Zettler is an Assistant Coach with the Tampa Bay Lightning under head coach Jon Cooper. He helped the Lightning win the Stanley Cup in 2021. Zettler has coached in more than 1,000 professional games across 25 years behind the bench, including roles with the Tampa Bay Lightning, San Jose Sharks, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Syracuse Crunch. Before coaching, he played 14 NHL seasons as a defenceman.
